The original PUBG map, Erangel, is the main source of nostalgia for the community of the game. The project started with this single location, which has since been learnt far and wide by the fans. Interestingly, the map was built with paid assets from the Unreal Engine store.
However, the developers outlined their plans to remaster the map some time ago, and today we have the first proper glimpse at what the updated version of Erangel looks like. The main change and improvement is obviously the pack of completely original assets built specifically for the game. It does add a lot to the authentic atmosphere of a fictional Eastern European island. The whole picture looks far more realistic, but it’s not only about the visual changes to the scenery, environments, and buildings. The development team is also tweaking the loot system and the mechanics of the Blue Zone so that the overall experience feels more tactical and engaging.
The changes are going to hit the test servers first, and they will be introduced to the game at a later date. There isn’t an exact release day yet, but the update is expected to come out in northern summer. It might actually help the game a lot in terms of bringing back some of its audience.
