According to the research made by Deloitte and the German gaming industry association Game (as reported by Telecompaper), the European esports market has reached the value of €240 million in 2018.

The parties predict that the annual growth of the market is likely to reach 23% while the total income will approximately account for €670 million by 2023. By 2020, 60% of the total income will be represented by advertisement deals and sponsorships. Deloitte estimates that in 2018, the esports audience was represented by 86 million people – and this figure is expected to grow and reach 105 million by 2020. The majority of esports enthusiasts are so-called millennials aged between 21 and 35.

At first sight, the estimated figures might seems a bit too optimistic, although you should take into consideration a few details. For instance, huge companies like Honda and Chrysler are heavily investing in esports and specific deals with popular teams. Moreover, the recent prize pools are well exceeding $30 million, which is another inspiring sign that the esports industry is growing rapidly.

Perhaps, the Olympics committee will soon be forced to reevaluate its attitude towards esports.
