Introduction

The cooperative games (a.k.a co-op) are basically games where you have to work together with your teammates in order to achieve a certain goal. Depending on the game, this can vary a lot but in most cases, you will face another team of players or AI enemies.

Unlike the pure competitive mods such as deathmatch, for example, co-op gameplay is focused on teamwork, thus, allowing you do many things such as dropping weapons, healing, giving boosts to your friends and more.

There are different types of co-op games. Some of them are a lot more complex than others because they can offer different game endings depending on how many people are playing the game at the same time. In other cases, the co-op simply allows different players to play simultaneously in the single-player mode of the game.

Today, we will take a look at some of the best co-op games ever made for PC. Some of them are most likely going to be familiar but you will probably learn about a couple of new titles that are definitely worth checking out.

Gears 5

The first title on our list is the infamous Gears 5. It is an amazing game where you have to take the role of Kait. Similar to the other games of this amazing series, you can either play alone or with your friends (up to three of them to be exact). Even though the game is pretty cool to play alone it is definitely advisable to grab some of your friends because they are going to make the entire thing worthwhile.

In addition to the campaign, there are also a couple of multiplayer modes available. The newest addition to this title is the so-called "Escape Mode" which allows you to grab your friend and go into an enemy territory where you have to put a bomb. Once you're done, your job will be to escape but as you can guess, it is definitely easier said than done.

Another cool new feature is the Horde Mode which is basically similar to a deathmatch. You will be able to fight numerous enemies at once for better rewards.

Borderlands: The Handsome Collection

There are not that many games out there that have the fanbase of the Borderlands series. Of course, this is all for a reason because this series is an absolute blast to play alongside your friends due to the various weapons, abilities and more. What's more, this is simply one of the best casual games you can play because there are not that many objectives you need to follow. Sure, you can play seriously if you wanted to but it's not a necessity.

That said, if you are really serious about the game, you can team up with other likeminded players in order to bring down some of the strong bosses that you can find in the game. Apart from being very hard to kill, those bosses also tend to provide pretty sweet loot, which makes them very important.

The latest version of the game is Borderlands 3 but if you have not played any of the games previously we definitely advise you to try them out.

Far Cry 5

Far Cry is yet another legendary gaming franchise that brings together millions of people. This is one of those games where you can experience so much more if you play with a friend. After all, it's way more fun to explore Montana with someone who can help you whenever it's needed. Let's also not forget that you will face a lot of enemies on your way so it's definitely safer if you are with someone.

Warframe

Warframe is one of the most popular games right now and it's for a reason. You can play with up to four people in this amazing co-op shooter where you can explore different objectives through space. Oh, let's not forget the various enemies that you will come across along your way. You can use your suit's power, special abilities, and amazing weapons.  The "deeper" you advance in the game, the better weapons you will need so keep that in mind.

Overall, this is definitely a game worth playing with your friend.

Payday 2

This game is one of the all-time classic mafia-type of games where you can pretty much whatever you feel like doing. If you ever wanted to test you and your friends' skills to rob a bank, this is your chance. Just keep it in mind that every wrong move in the game might result in getting caught but the police.

Payday 2 is probably one of the most friends-related games right now. This is good and bad at the same time because if your friends are bad at the game you will not be able to progress easily.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

This game is very different compared to those we mentioned above. Many people refer to this game as one of the best RPGs ever made, which is definitely not an understatement because it has one of the most loyal fans out there.

You can play either alone or with a couple of your friends (up to 3) in co-op.  You need to work together in order to resolve the different challenges ahead, defeat the various strong enemies that you face on your way.

The cool thing about Divinity: Original Sin 2 is that you can even create your very own campaign. In order to do that, you need to finish the original campaign first and then use the so-called "Game Master mode" which lets you create your own campaign from the ground up. This is the perfect time to add some features that you feel like we're needed so that you can make your life easier.

Spelunky

Spelunky is a very fun game where you can explore different caves with your friends. Of course, there will be many enemies that you have to face along the way but hey, that's the fun part about it.

In fact, this is one of those games where it allows you to play solo but in reality, it will be pretty much a lost cause. Sure, you can progress through the randomly-generated caves but it is a lot easier to do this with a friend. After all, another character in the game means new abilities.

Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2

This is one of those nostalgic games that you either love or hate. If you are one of those players that used to play with your Lego back in the days, this is definitely something that you will fell in love with instantly. However, if you never liked building stuff as a kid, it's better to look at a different game.

To be fair, there are many co-op Lego-type games out there and each of them has something unique to offer to the table. However, if you have to choose just one than this definitely has to be on your bucket list because it can bring you and your friend countless hours of fun.

Also, let's not forget that the theme in his game is around the different Marvel characters. Nowadays, after all the different movies there are not that many people out there that don't like the Marvel Universe. The good thing is that you can choose literally every Marvel character in existence, including some that have not yet made it to the big screen.

Of course, if you hate the Marvel universe, this is surely not the game for you. Other than that, we recommend you to try it out.

Mario Kingdom Battle

Similar to the game we mentioned above, this one is also related to some peoples' childhood memories. If you are an old-school gamer, chances are that you played Super Mario at least once in your life. In fact, there are even people that play this game even today.

Mario Kingdom Battle will allow you to jump in action together with your friends in an amazing world full of cool things to do. One of the best things about this game is that you can play whenever you feel like it, which makes it perfect for those who are working long hours and don't have that much time to progress through the game.

The game offers various different challenges such as going through hard places, fighting bosses and more. Sometimes it might be a good idea to talk to your friends before you approach a challenge so you know what to do because there are some challenges that are very tricky and require you to think very fast.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

This is definitely one of the most unique games on this list. However, it is very likely that the vast majority of you that are reading this have never heard of this game. Well, unless you own your very own VR headset, this is expected because this game is available only via one.

As you know, the VR tech has exploded in the last couple of years. This game is a great example of that because it allows you to play with your friends in a VR environment. One of your friends has to wear the VR heads while the rest need to sit and look at a special booklet related to bomb defusing.

As the name suggests, this game is all about defusing a bomb before it explodes. The person who is wearing the headset will see that there is a briefcase next to each bomb with different devices in it. Some of them will help you defuse the bomb, whereas others will make it instantly explode, which means that you need to think carefully before using it.

Once you find an item that you think might be useful, you need to tell it your friends and their job is to check if it is in the booklet or not. Of course, there is a specific timeframe during which you need to defuse this bomb which makes the task even harder. What's more, the more you progress, the harder it will get. At one point, the bombs will become very tricky to deal with and the time will just not be enough.

This game is available for various platforms, including PC. However, it's definitely advisable to try it out if you have a Nintendo Switch because it is just easier to do.

Sea of Thieves

This game got released in mid-2018 and it quickly became one of the biggest hits during that year. In fact, this is one of the few sandbox games that actually allow the players to have a decent co-op experience. It's an amazing open-world game where you can do all kinds of stuff. You can simply grab a ship and then sail to a certain direction with your friends while enjoying a bottle for rum and some cool music.

However, it's not all fun and games because, at some point, you will start to face different enemies. That's where you have to use tour cannons in order to defend yourself from those who want to sink your ship.

After it's release, there have been a couple of cool updates that added new features to the game. For example, there are new quests that involve a lot of team activities in order to solve them. Despite that, the coolest thing in the game is still the opportunity to chase ships across the ocean and kill them. However, be careful because there are many enemies waiting for you, especially when you go into deep waters. You can even stumble across Kraken, which is a fight that will definitely not go in your favor.

Call of Duty World War II Zombies

There are not that many game titles out there that have the fan base and the history of Call of Duty. It is one of the all-time classics when it comes down to shooters. What's more, the game evolved a lot and now it even has its professional competitive scene where teams play together for some of the biggest prize polls in Esports.

That said, CoD WWII Zombies is not really aiming at the Esports scene. Instead, this is a game where you and three of your friends can go in, relax and kill some zombies. However, it is important to know that this game gets progressively hard. This means that at first, you might think that it is a piece of cake because the zombies do nothing. Well, once you pass a certain level you will find out that this is definitely not the case. At one point, it will be extremely hard to survive which is where your friends need to step in and help.

The good thing is that you will be able to upgrade your weapons, which should help you in the long run. However, unless you work together as a team, you will not be able to survive.

Monster Hunter World

Monster Hunter World is an amazing game that can offer endless fun to you and your friends. However, unlike some of the other games on this list, this is definitely not a "noob-friendly" game because it is significantly hard to pick up.

In addition to that, playing online is also a bit weird compared to other games. For example, your friends will not be able to join you in battle until you clear the cutscenes. Even then, there are other types of small things that they need to do, which is a shame because this game is really awesome.

That said, once they join you in battle, your job will be to work together and defeat the various creatures that you will stumble across. Of course, you will be able to use a wide range of weapons and other types of gear that will make your life a lot easier. Regardless of that, unless you figure out a way to work with your team-mates, you will not be able to progress much apart from the first couple of bosses.

GTA 5 Online

There are not enough words to describe the Grand Theft Auto franchise. If you never heard of it, let's just say that it is a game where you can do pretty much whatever you feel like it.

There are several GTA games made throughout the years and even though people believe that San Andras was the most interesting one, we believe that GTA 5 is just the best game of the series.

It seems like the developers also think that way because just a couple of months after the official release of GTA 5, the online version of the game came out. You can now create your very own character and dive in the action alongside your friends. There are endless activities for you to do such as robbing banks, cars, doing different heists, making your very own businesses and more.

This definitely has to be on your bucket list if you like to have some fun alongside your friends. After all, there are not that many games out there that don't require you to spend that much time grinding while also allowing you to experience the game at its fullest.

Destiny 2

Destiny 2 came out around one year ago and it instantly managed to catch a wide audience. There are many cool things about this game but it seems like the genre is it's most distinctive feature. This game is basically a mixture between a shooter and a MOO, which means that you can have various weapons while also having a level system that gives you different bonuses.

When it comes down to playing with your friends, Destiny 2 offers a wide range of activities such as Strikes, Nightfalls, six-man raids and more. The cool thing is that you can play with other people by finding yourself a guild, which means that even if your friends abandon you for some reason, you will still have people to play with.

Of course, let's also not forget about the different public events that you can take part in. Some of them will give you different items that can fall from the sky which means that you have to fight for it with the other people that are camping the same thing.

Apex Legends

Literally, every single gamer nowadays has heard about Apex Legends. It is a very cool co-op Battle Royal game where you have to work alongside your friends in order to be the last team remaining. You can use many different stuff to help you along the way such as spells and items. What's more, you even have the ability to actually revive your fallen team-mates, which is pretty cool.

However, the downside of Apex is that you need to play a lot in order to be competitive hear. This is definitely not a casual game because you will just get run over.
