Capcom has announced that Capcom Pro Tour 2020 will resume on June 6 with a new online format. All events for the 2020 Pro Tour have been canceled, meaning the road to the 2020 Capcom Cup will instead be paved with online qualifiers. Twenty players will compete in the 2020 Capcom Cup, and here is how they will be decided.

This new format will see 18 regionals played out online, with the first being on June 6 for North America East. The winner of each regional event will be the one to advance to the 2020 Capcom Cup, nullifying leaderboards.
The 2019 Capcom Cup winner Derek "iDom" Ruffin will be guaranteed a spot at the 2020 Capcom Cup, along with a "fan favorite from the Capcom Cup 2019 Top 31". This "fan favorite" must be someone who has does not qualify through the regional qualifiers to ensure that 20 players will be competing at the 2020 Capcom Cup.
This CPT 2020 online news is nice to hear for SFV fans, but it is also a bit worrisome given the state of online play. Capcom has been making efforts to improve netcode, and, hopefully, they can get it worked out before June 6.
