GungHo Online Entertainment has announced that the first TEPPEN World Championship will be held in Tokyo, Japan. The event will take place on December 21 at a yet-unannounced location.
The collectible card game pits iconic Capcom characters against one another in strategic matches. TEPPEN's mechanics are a bit unique. The rules might seem complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, the game becomes much easier to play.
Players pick a character and then create card decks that are used to battle one another. Unlike popular games like Hearthstone, Shadowverse and Magic The Gathering: Arena, some cards have timers that allows them to keep dealing damage for as long, as they are still in play on the board. Franchises represented include Devil May Cry, Mega Man, Resident Evil and Street Fighter.
Qualifier events will be held in-game for North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Japan on October 5. Japan will get an additional qualifier on November 23. The live event will feature a $466,000 (¥50 million) prize pool and is being sponsored by Amazon.
TEPPEN launched in July and is currently available on iOS and Android. Since then it has acquired 3 million downloads and counting.
