According to Tekken 7 producer Katsuhiro Harada, the game had sold 5 million units globally by the end of December 31, 2019. That puts it above Street Fighter V, which had sold 4.1 million units by the same date, despite its release a year ahead of Tekken 7’s console and PC release.

Tekken’s sales figure includes both PC and console units, but it’s not the only indicator of how well the game has bee doing. Its viewership at the annual Evolution Championship Series has also grown over the past few years, from around 150,000 total viewers in 2017 to 227,002 and 1,372,796 hours watched in 2019. Last year Tekken 7 outdid Street Fighter V in the number of total viewers (182,736), but Capcom’s game still had more hours watched at 1,532,877.
With Tekken 7 Season 3 around mid-way and Street Fighter V: Champion Edition getting a full launch tomorrow, it will be interesting to see what viewership for both these games will be by the end of EVO 2020.
