Having a troll in your team is never fun, that’s why Ubisoft developers are cleaning Rainbow Six Siege from toxic players and teamkillers. Back in July, the company released chat filters that helped to tone down toxicity problems, and in the latest patch, they address game trolling directly.
Up until recently, the worst penalty a teamkilling in an unranked game was getting kicked. The troll would just find a new match and go on with his/her shenanigans. Since the last patch killing a teammate not only kicks player back to the menu, but also applies a 30-minute ban from matchmaking (casual or ranked).
Subsequent offences increase the ban time up to one week (racks up gradually) and it should deter players from killing teammates.
Craig Robinson from Ubisoft community team confirmed on Twitter that there’s a cooldown on the ban timer. It means that if you kill your teammates, let’s say, once in a decade, the penalty will still constitute in a 30-minute ban.
Besides, addressing the teamkilling problem Ubisoft also patched a huge amount of issues that caused crashes and produced unintended game mechanics, like picking up defuser through the walls.
