More Street Fighter V action set the weekend ablaze with the Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 Europe West 1 event. Akuma main, Houmaid "Takamura" Rabie, managed to take down the competition, not losing a single match in the tournament.
The prestigious event drew the best players in the region, including the likes of Red Bull Kumite 2019 2nd-place winner DC "Infexious" Coleman, EVO 2018 champion Benjamin "Problem X" Simon, and four-time Guinness World Record holder Ryan "Prodigal Son" Hart. Two hundred and twenty players from thirteen countries put on a great show during the event. EVO 2018
Ryan Hart failed to make it into the Top 8, after losing to Takamura and then Infexious in the Top 16. Takamura also sent Problem X and Claude Eric "Hurricane" Diboti to the Losers Bracket, where they faced each other. Winning the Losers Final, Hurricane advanced to the Grand Final for a second shot at beating Takamura, but once more, his Cammy was no match for Takamura's Akuma. The match ended 3-2.

Unfortunately, the tournament suffered a series of netplay issues that resulted in some matches being replayed. During the pools, Problem X replayed his match against Jason "LuckyPC" Gryson, while LuckyPC also had to replay his match against Fa Wanmei.
The shift to online tournaments continues to reinforce the need for better netcode in the games we play. A few months ago, Capcom had made it a priority of theirs, but since the pandemic began, the developer's attention seems to have shifted elsewhere. This event isn't the first Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 stop to suffer such setbacks, and it probably won't be the last. Fortunately, Capcom Cup 2020 will take place early next year and shouldn't be subject to these problems.
The next event in the series, Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 East Asia 1, will begin this weekend on July 25.
