Months of waiting and speculation will finally come to an end tomorrow, January 16 as Nintendo will finally reveal the fifth and final character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s first Fighter Pass.
The announcement was made yesterday via the Nintendo Versus Twitter account, stating that the special live stream will reveal and showcase the new character. The game’s director, Masahiro Sakurai will host the video presentation which will run for about 35 minutes, beginning at 6 a.m. PT.
This is the first time Nintendo has decided not to reveal the next DLC character before their special showcase. The image included with the tweet doesn’t give us much to go on, but Sakurai’s pose holding three fingers up in a weird manner could be a clue as to the 80th character’s identity. Since the announcement, fans have considered all sorts of characters, from Digimon’s Agumon to Crash Bandicoot, Rayman, and Travis Touchdown of No More Heroes. The most popular opinion right now is Dante of Devil May Cry, as it has a few things going for it (besides the pose).
Devil May Cry 5’s voice of V, Brian Hanford, recently made some suggestive comments in an interview with JoJo Wifi about Dante being the next DLC character in Smash Ultimate. Devil May Cry Producer, Matt Walker also shared a video last week in which he told fans to look out for announcements on January 16, January 30 and February 13.
There’s also a poll from Devil May Cry creator, Hideki Kamiya, in 2018 where he asks fans which character they would prefer to see in Smash Ultimate. Even though Bayonetta, another of his creations, made it into the game, Kamiya’s poll is interesting because she wasn’t in it. Instead, it featured Amaterasu, Viewtiful Joe, Wonder Red, and Dante, who won the most votes out of 300.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has had all its DLC characters leaked in one way or the other, so if it turns out Dante isn’t who we get tomorrow, then it could be a pleasant surprise.
