Super Mario movie is scheduled for 2022

Nintendo introduced the Corporate Management Policy Briefing to the public, and also gave the little details about the movie based on the universe of the Super Mario Bros. game, produced by Illumination studio.

Illumination is an American movie company engaged in the production of animated films. The list of its works includes such cartoons as Despicable Me, Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, Sing, The Grinch and others. Some of these creations were nominated for Oscars and Golden Globes.

The movie was announced last year, but today it is far from completion. The premiere of the movie is scheduled for 2022. Such attention of developers is most likely because this is already the second attempt to do the successful movie based on the franchise and the previous one indeed cannot be called so. The 1993 movie received extremely negative press reviews and failed at the movie theatres. It was necessary to forget about all the plans for the movie continuation for the next 20 years after that case. According to co-founder of Illumination Chris Meledandri he is glad that the first movie Super Mario Bros. from 1993 turned out to be so terrible. According to him, making a new version after a lousy movie is even more interesting than if the original movie was good enough.
