Square Enix has recently published last quarter's financial report and answered investors' questions about how the business will develop in the near future. As part of these answers, it was reported that very soon we should expect a release of another major project.
The company refused to go into details, but their president Yosuke Matsuda promised to return to this question at the upcoming E3 2019. Judging by the reports, Square Enix expects to receive an extremely high income in the third quarter, which is around the New Year holidays.
Given that Kingdom Hearts III is already out, there are not so many potential projects that can attract such a large solvent audience. One option could be a project in the Marvel's Avengers universe — and there are a lot of rumours around it — but we have seen nothing significant. Also, let's not forget about Final Fantasy VII Remake, as it had missed from the radar recently. The game was originally planned to be distributed in an episodic format and it is quite possible that the first one is just waiting for us in November-December.
The same report contains information that Just Cause 4 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider sales did not meet the publisher's expectations and both series urgently need to be reworked. So, obviously, one should not expect their continuation in the near future.
