The Electronic Entertainment Expo has been organized since 1995. Sony has not missed a single show in 24 years of the conference existence. But not in 2019, apparently. In an interview with Gameinformer, the company said they won't be going to E3. Moreover, they discarded the suggestion that they could create their own event off-site.
"We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3”
PlayStation senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark said.
Players will have to accept the fact that the next E3 will take place without Sony. At the same time, the company said that their loyal fans are very important to them.
"PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
Sony also mentioned the huge time costs they spend on developing games and services in order to wow the players. This was one of the reasons to not participate in future E3.
Not so long ago, Sony decided to skip 2018 and not organize PlayStation Experience. The reason for that was simple: they didn't have enough games to present, so they didn't want to disappoint the fans.
Microsoft and Nintendo have declared that they will definitely participate in E3 2019 because they have something to show and to surprise their loyal fans.
In turn, we hope that PlayStation Experience will be back in 2019 with some new format. Who knows, maybe they are working so hard on a new generation of PlayStation (aka PS5) and don’t have enough time to visit any special events? What do you think about that?
