Thanks to talkative PlayStation architect Mark Cerny, we’ve learned a lot about the specs of the next PlayStation, which doesn’t have a title yet. It wasn’t a proper official confirmation either, but just recently, Sony has admitted in its financial report that it is working on the next generation console.
You can see the brief confirmation via this link (head over to page 9 where the next generation console is referenced in the section for the 2019 financial year forecast.) The next PlayStation is mentioned among the increased expenses that will affect the financial results, as the development of the device requires additional budgets. This is by far the only official information directly from Sony, and you might wonder why the company decided to announce the next PlayStation that early. Jason Schreier, Kotaku’s editor, has recently noted (via Twitter) that this might be due to the fact that Sony had already started sending devkits to developers while the announcement was meant to get ahead of inevitable leaks.
The very same financial report also contains information in regards to the relevant level of global sales of PS4. The family of consoles (including Slim and Pro editions) has sold 96.8 million units worldwide. There’re no doubts that PS4 will hit the milestone of 100 million consoles sold in the coming months.
