Street Fighter V has had the spotlight in the fighting game community for weeks now. From the announcement of Champion Edition to the V-Skill 2 update, Capcom Cup 2019 and Red Bull Kumite 2019. It would appear that all this activity has even Dominique "SonicFox" McLean excited.
Taking a big interest in the newly released character Gill, SonicFox has been getting some hands-on time with the game. Known for being good at fighting games in general, SonicFox has won tournaments in a variety of titles, like Dead or Alive, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Injustice, and Mortal Kombat. However, he's never really seen that level of success in Street Fighter.
When the game launched in 2016, SonicFox had taken an interest in F.A.N.G but eventually dropped Street Fighter V. Following the release of Gill with Season 5, Street Fighter V has won his attention once more. SonicFox stated in a tweet:
"Haven't felt this passionate about an SF5 char since fang. I think its time.."
That statement gives the impression that SonicFox could be making a return, but it's not all talk either. The multi-game champion has been playing a lot of Gill since the character's release, in both online matches and training mode. Watching his streams, it's clear SonicFox has been away from the game, but his potential to incite rage quits is still evident.
It also appears the universe is on his side, as both Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals and Mortal Kombat 11's Final Kombat will conclude before the Capcom Pro Tour 2020 season commences in March. If he desires, he could attempt dethroning the current champion, Derek "iDom" Ruffin.
It won't be a smooth ride, though, as the path littered with top tier opponents like Victor "Punk" Woodley, Arman "Phenom" Hanjani and last year's Capcom Cup champion, Tsunehiro "gachikun" Kanamori. Here's hoping he does return.
