Beyond The Summit has revealed the talent lineup for its upcoming Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament, Smash Summit 9.

The list includes Melee It On Me founder, Bobby "Scar" Scarnewman and member Kris "Toph" Aldenderfer. Thunder Gaming talent Vish "Vish" Rajkumar is also on the list with MPGR 2019 Summer rank 50 player, Hugo "HugS" Gonzalez. 

Here's the full list of talent for Smash Summit 9:

  • Bobby "Scar" Scarnewman

  • Kris "Toph" Aldenderfer

  • Oscar "Lovage" Nilsson

  • Vish "Vish" Rajkumar

  • Hugo "HugS" Gonzalez

  • Mike "Webs" Weber

The tournament features a new format and gives players more options for entry. With 18 spots to fill instead of the usual 16, eight go to direct invites while five are for crowdfunded players and the final five are from the qualifier events. 

Direct invites

All eight invited players were chosen for their SSBRM Summer ranking and performance in the past few months. Smash Summit 8 winner Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson will also attend to defend his title. Here are all the invites:

  • Juan “Hungrybox” Debiedma

  • Justin “Wizzrobe” Hallett

  • Jeffrey “Axe” Williamson

  • William “Leffen” Hjelte

  • Joseph “Mango” Marquez

  • Zain Naghmi

  • Justin “Plup” McGrath

  • Masaya “aMSa” Chikamoto

Qualifiers 

The upcoming qualifier events are Genesis 7 which takes place from January 24-26 and Saving Mr. Lombardi 2 on February 1. The top four non-invited players from Genesis 7 will be seeded while Saving Mr. Lombardi 2 only has one spot to fill by the first-place winner. 

Crowdfunding entry

Players will compete in wacky challenges to earn a Crowdfunding spot in Smash Summit 9. Fans will get to vote for the next entries and make donations to the event prize pool. Voting begins on January 19 with opt-in scheduled for January 22. The first player will be voted in on February 2, while the second and third will be on February 4 and the final vote on February 6.

Information regarding side events and other additional content will be made available after all players have been determined.
