Smash Bros. Ultimate the second most downloaded Nintendo Switch game

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has been a huge success. Last year it became the most successful fighting game in history, the most tweeted fighting game on Twitter, and now its been revealed that it was the second most downloaded Nintendo Switch game.

Nintendo has released a list of the 25 most downloaded games on the Nintendo Switch, with Epic’s battle royale sensation, Fortnite taking the top spot. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Minecraft follow it. The list only included North American downloads in 2019.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the only game in the top 5 that carries a full retail price tag. Cuphead, Minecraft and the Untitled Goose Game cost a lot less than that while Fortnite is free-to-play. It’s also one of four Nintendo exclusives on the list to make it into the top 10, with the others being Fire Emblem: Three Houses, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, and Pokemon Sword.

Switch owners also seem to have lots of love for fighting games as Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Mortal Kombat 11 made it onto the list too. With so many past games receiving a Switch release these days, that’s a rather big pool of titles that these fighters surpassed.

2020 has games like Street Fighter V: Champion Edition and Tekken 7 shiftings gears for their new seasons, while newcomers like Granblue Fantasy Versus are on the way and highly anticipated. Whether or not Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues to achieve new milestones as a fighting game, Switch title and video game will be a treat to see.
