Sharks win PLG Grand Slam qualifier for South America

Brand new event in Abu Dhabi gets a qualified team

PLG Grand Slam has announced its first ever event with a $100,000 prize pool for 16 teams in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. Thirty-six teams across South America took part in the single elimination qualifier for the chance to represent their region at this event.

Sharks, who recently returned from Lisbon to compete in ESL LA League and in the qualifiers for the Americas Minor, faced their Brazilian rival from DETONA in a series of best-of-three matches.

Team captain of team Sharks - Renato “nak” Nakano

Detona started good on their map pick de_inferno and won 16:9. Moving onto second map de_train, Sharks showed a really strong T-side; Renato “nak” Nakano’s men saw them lose just one gun round before running out with a 16:10 victory. It all came down to the last map de_cache, which ended up being the most one-side map of all. Sharks dictated the dynamic of the match from the beginning and closed the series easily with 16:5.

One last interesting fact: before the qualifier started, one of the star player from DETONA - Vinicius "vsm" Moreira - was being investigated by ESL for his alleged ownership of a Steam account with VAC ban dating back five years. Vsm is considered one of the most promising talents in Brazil.
