According to a huge leak posted on Reddit, significant changes await Destiny 2 in the nearest future. The game is reportedly about to switch for the free-to-play model and release on Steam. This big move is planned to happen on September 17 – the day when Destiny 2: Shadowkeep releases.
Apparently, the leak in question happened due to some innocent soul publishing an article regarding the topic too early. It broke the embargo and was therefore removed, although it’s been captured by the RSS feed. Anyway, after adopting the free-to-play model the base game will be given the title Destiny 2: New Light, which will include all the content from Year 1. Reportedly, all the additional content will be then sold separately, which means you won’t have to buy previous expansions to access the latest ones anymore. The main idea behind switching to free-to-play is the attempt to bring back players and draw attention towards the game, which is struggling to survive in the highly competitive environment of online shooters.
Another exciting part of the leak suggests that Destiny 2 will soon migrate over to Steam from Activision-owned Battle.net. You’ll be able to transfer all of your progress across the digital stores including your cosmetics and any paid items you might have.
