According to a report by DBLTAP, ESL will be hosting the first Counter-Strike Major of 2020 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It will allegedly be called “ESL One Rio Major."
HLTV also revealed in May that the first Major of 2020 would take place from May 11-14. It will mark the first Major held in South America and the fourth held in the Americas region.
DreamHack hosted an Open at Rio's Olympic Park earlier in April 2019, but the event suffered many setbacks. There were technical issues, low attendance, and both the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Rainbow Six tournaments had to be canceled in the end.
ESL has hosted six CS:GO Majors now, with its most recent of this magnitude being IEM Katowice. If able to avoid similar problems to what DreamHack Open Rio de Janeiro 2019 suffered, then this could be one of their biggest events yet.
