Red Dead Redemption 2 has been long rumoured to include Battle Royale multiplayer mode of sorts, and now it was officially confirmed to be the real thing. With the upcoming release of Red Dead Online many gamers are thriving to learn more about what's in stock waiting for them in the multiplayer world of RDR2.
Twitter-account illogical Mods has posted a few leaks regarding Red Dead Online gamemodes. Rockstar has since confirmed most of the provided information in a comprehensive article on the game's official website. So what do we have prepared for us? There's a bunch of multiplayer gameplay modes including one that sounds really familiar:
- Make it Count - a "Battle Royale"-inspired gamemode that tasks you with a simple mission to become the last man standing among 32 players. It's going to be available in two iterations: the one with bow and arrows only, and the other one packed with throwing knives. Whether we get other weapons in the coming months aside from bows'n'knives remains to be seen, but it likely depends on the gamemode's popularity.
- Shootout & Team Shootout - classic Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch with unlimited respawns. Players compete to get the highest kill count, and in case of a tie Rockstar has prepared a sudden death rule. Who gets the first kill wins.
- Most Wanted - a fresh take on a classic Deathmatch set of rules. It is being described as a race to the top, and the higher place your victim occupies in the leaderboard right know, the more points you get for killing them. In other words, players can easily lose their superiority.
- Hostile Territory - another gamemode for teams where players compete to capture all the points on the map or earn the highest score by controlling most of the points. Pretty similar to what we have in standard "Capture the point" gamemodes across other multiplayer video games.
That is all officially confirmed by Rockstar for the time being, but illogical Mods claims there's another gamemode called Races. It's obviously horse racing, and it is really hard to imagine a Rockstar game without any kind of racing after the GTA Online enormous success. Rockstar promises to share additional details on the RDR Online content, so we are likely to hear more on the matter in the coming days. Just be sure to check the official website.
What can we expect from RDR Online Beta?
It is worth noting that all of the gamemodes listed above are meant to be played by 32 gamers throughout the beta period, but the player count is subject to be changed in the nearing future after receiving the feedback and dealing with network issues by developers - given there're any serious problems in the first place.
There's also going to be an honor system, and the honor value is going to be based on your performance across all of the gamemodes and even simple actions during the free roam. You are going to encounter a lot of different missions, and the essential tasks will be built upon your very behavior. Given you keep your deeds close to the law, the missions obtainable are going to follow the same law-abiding pattern. In case you live the life of a furious outlaw, the missions will utilize your criminal skills.
There's also a set of long-lasting story missions called A Land of Opportunities for a group of 2-4 players, and its flow can dramatically change with your honor value. Honor will be affected by your moral choices as well. Whether you are going to kill an NPC or act merciful towards the poor fellow, the game will take your decision into consideration and adjust the "honormeter" correspondingly.
The Early Access period starts today for all those who own Red Dead Redemption 2: Ultimate Edition, whereas "regular" players have to wait until Friday. All the information on access periods is published on RDR2's official website and you can learn more on the matter through here.
