Videogame-streaming hasn't been a huge success lately, although this may change drastically in the coming years. Amazon is reportedly working on its own game-streaming service, which will be another branch in company's gaming business.
Amazon already owns Double Helix studio and has an internal one of its own called Amazon Game Studios. While the latter is not extremely successful for the time being, given is has already cancelled one of its in-development projects titled Breakaway, Amazon is keen on expanding its videogame business by entering the streaming field. According to The Information, Amazon is considering a possibility of launching a dedicated game-streaming service, while Deadline independently reports that the development is already underway and the launch is expected as early as 2020.
Looking at the existing game-streaming services doesn't necessarily draw a picture of a successful enterprise, and the technology itself is highly dependent on the Internet connection quality. However, several huge companies - besides Amazon - are already investing in game-streaming, while some of them claim that the technology might be the future of gaming.
Game-streaming could even potentially put an end to console generations and hardware gaming units as a whole, because you will only need a simple device with a display and established Internet connection to play games. Still, latency is a huge problem, and gaming consoles and PCs are unlikely to disappear in the nearest future.
