Red Dead Redemption will have an official companion app

The app will show your current position on the map, character stats and much more.

All popular games today have a variety of mobile assistant apps that contain info about items, locations, characters and so on. The complexity of those apps is usually limited by the depth of the game itself and the amount of APIs created by the developer. For example, we’ve recently posted a piece on Fortnite companion apps, which can be downloaded for free.

Rockstar Games doesn’t want Red Dead Redemption 2 players to search app stores for third-party apps containing spoilers and information about ways to cheat your way to victory. The studio is planning to release its own RDR 2 companion this Friday, along with the game.

The companion app will work as an additional screen, displaying your current position on map and character stats.

—      Additionally, the Companion lets you examine Arthur's in-game Journal, provides stat tracking through Social Club, contains the full digital game manual, plus an optional digital version of the Red Dead Redemption 2 Complete Official Guide from Piggyback and more.

The game will be released on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this Friday. According to a recently leaked map, RDR 2 uses many playable areas, available in the previous title. Check out this page to view 23 seconds of RDR 2 gameplay.
