As fans of Red Dead Redemption are impatiently waiting for the sequel, Rockstar Games announced Open Beta of Red Dead Online.
Players will be able to enjoy coop and PvP missions in November. Every owner of a Red Dead Redemption 2 copy on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will have access to the multiplayer functions.
There is no information as to when the online mode officially leaves Beta, but Rockstar promised to release more news “soon”.
Members of RDO development team Imran Sarwar and Josh Needleman, who also worked on GTA Online, gave an interview to IGN. Here is how they explained why the online version of the game will be released later than RDD 2:
— As we have learned from experience when launching Online games at this scale, there are bound to be a few issues and we want to ensure that we have time to gradually roll out the game and make the experience as smooth as we possibly can for everyone.
According to the developers, they tried to take the most successful elements from GTA Online and bring them to RDO. Many of the Heists provided a template for what was done in RDO.
What about the future of GTA Online?
In the future Rockstar developers want players to switch between GTA Online and Red Dead Online:
— We vaguely plan to stagger the updates of both games so that players can switch between the two, but our development plans may not always allow this!
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018.
