In a bid to continue their plans for an all-Korean team, Florida Mayhem has signed Park “RaiN” Jae-ho to the side. Rain formerly played for O2 Blast in Overwatch Contenders Korea and followed in the footsteps of present team coach, Sang Min “Insight” Oh who also left O2 Blast for Florida Mayhem.
Back in April when Insight joined Florida Mayhem, the Overwatch team had announced its intention to run an all-Korean squad to improve their chances at the Overwatch League (OWL). Their statement explained that the old team suffered from poor communication, stemming from cultural and language barriers.
Rain will most likely continue his role as a support main but whether as a substitute or not is unknown for now. The South Korean Overwatch player began his career playing for Korean team EHOME in 2017 before joining O2 Blast after EHOME disbanded in the same year.
OWL is currently in its third stage out of four with Florida Mayhem suffering 3 losses and 0 wins. Rain’s signing occurred two weeks into Stage 3 and during the team’s initial shift to an all Korean team, it made significant changes to its roster at the start of Stage 2. Teams need time for players to adapt to one another’s playstyles before they gain any form of synergy. Hopefully, Rain will fit in perfectly with the team, and their standing in OWL will improve, but there isn’t any assurance of this happening.
