Quantic Dream is famous for its series of first-class PlayStation exclusives in the genre of interactive narrative adventures and is considered as one of the key reasons to buy Sony consoles in the first place. This era, by the looks, is coming to an end though with Quantic Dream pumping up to make its future projects multiplatform. This change is likely due to the investment the studio has recently received from NetEase.
There’re no exact details at the moment, but Quantic Dream claims it is now working on a cross-platform engine to power up its new games. As David Cage told VentureBeat, the studio will continue its recognized work to develop games in the genre it pioneered, but the team also wants to explore new possibilities. Studio’s co-head Guillaume de Fondaumière added, that Quantic Dream is still committed to PlayStation platforms and won’t abandon it, although the main idea behind the shift in question is to let as many players as possible enjoy studio’s signature style on various platforms.
Developers do note that this is not the first case of multiplatform development for them. You might recall that Fahrenheit initially launched on both PlayStation 2 and Xbox, while a month later it also released on PC. In other words, the shift should be considered as a comeback. Quantic Dream is finally going back to its roots.
