PS4 becomes the second best-selling console of all time

Sony has shared the financial results for the second quarter of 2019, which ended on September 30. 

The PlayStation 4 shipped 2.8 million units, just slightly lower than the first quarter's 3.2 million. However, this was still enough to nudge it past the original PlayStation's numbers, making the PS4 the second best-selling console of all time. 

The original PlayStation was the first video game console to ship 100 million units, and the PS4 reached that milestone in July 2019. That, in addition to the new 2.8 million units has now put it ahead of its predecessor. However, the PlayStation 2 still reigns supreme with over 150 million units sold as at December 2012.

All eyes are now looking to the future, with the PlayStation 5 expected to arrive late 2020. Yet, this hasn't stopped the release of exclusive games on the PS4 as big titles like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima are still on the way.
