Pokémon The Movie: I choose you! is a Japanese animated adventure film directed by Kunihiko Yuyama. It was premiered at Japan Expo in France on July 6, 2017, then released in Japan on July 15, 2017, and throughout the world at the end of 2017. And now you can watch it on Netflix.
The twentieth full-screen Pokémon movie relates about 10 years old Ash’s escapades as a Pokémon trainer. Ash Ketchum dreams big about the adventures he will experience after receiving his first Pokémon from Professor Oak.
“When Ash tries to pick his first Pokémon on his birthday, he ends up with the stubborn Pikachu, and they embark on a journey to find the legendary No-Oh.”
The movie received a mixed to negative reception. The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes assigned the film a 43% approval rating based on 7 reviews, with an average rating of 5.7/10. User score on Metacritic gained 7.4/10 based on 20 positive, 6 mixed, and 4 negative reviews.
Negative assessments were based mainly on the fact of exclusion of the Misty and Brock from the movie, “as if they never existed” and the fact that Pikachu speaks to Ash in English. Some of the users called the film too childish: “Unless you're 5 years old, I can't imagine you would enjoy this movie.”- reacts user named “Mackro” on Metacritic. But the other reviews were positive in general.
If you're a fan of the Pokémon universe and haven't seen the movie yet, you may want to watch it to get your own opinion.
