Evo has announced that PlayStation will be sponsoring its 2019 edition. The Twitter handle also hints at some news the sponsor will be sharing during the event.
After announcements like that, speculation always follows and this time is no different. The biggest of all the ideas circulating is the possibility of a new Street Fighter game. Evo is where all the big fighting game community news is shared, so it makes sense that it could be something like Street Fighter VI.
Game producer Yoshinori Ono has been hinting some Street Fighter news to be revealed at Evo for some time now and the game has been very light on new content since its last character, Kage was added. However, it could just be a coincidence. Afterall, PlayStation does have its own fighting game series, the short lived PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale. A sequel to that game could be possible, especially if Sony has been keeping a close eye on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's success.
“8 of the 9 main event titles are presented by PS4."
Super Smash Bros Ultimate also happens to be the game at the event that PlayStation won't be presenting since it is a Nintendo game exclusive to the Switch. It will also be the final event to close out the show, but with over 3,500 registrations, it was never in doubt.
Evo 2019 will be held at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, Las Vegas, from August 2-4.
