With the cancelation of numerous esports tournaments across the world, many events have adopted new online structures. However, there just aren't that many events to go round. To help pick up the slack Sony has announced the PlayStation 4 Tournaments: Open Series

Beginning in June and running through Summer, Sony's offering will focus on a couple of games, with the FGC getting the opportunity to compete in Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath, Soul Calibur VI and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle. Leveraging the console's tournament function, Sony will hold weekly tournaments in each game. The series will end with a big monthly event featuring a prize pool and additional perks.

Weekly winners go home with $100, while the monthly's participants compete for a $1,000 (or more) prize pool. Competitors in each game also receive a special PS4 theme, while the top 40%, those that make it to the monthly's, and the winners all receive extra rewards.

Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will set things in motion on June 1, followed by Blazblue Cross Tag Battle on June 3 and Soul Calibur VI on June 4. These tournaments will be split between North America east and west, while Europe, the Middle East and South America will all have dates of their own for particular games. The monthly finals will have matches broadcast in live streams, while the best performing players will even have the opportunity to compete in invitational tournaments.

Registration for the open qualifiers is already live, so anyone can sign up so long as they meet Sony's entry requirements. To register, all you need to do is access the Events tab on the PS4 console. Tournament rules and other details can also be found here.

Other games included in PlayStation 4 Tournaments: Open Series are Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, EA Sports FIFA 20, Warface and NBA 2K20
