Neymar Jr, Zlatan Ibrahimović, 50,000 people in Parc des Princes and now Mobile Legends: Bang Bang team! This is Paris Saint-Germain football club ladies and gentleman. I mean Paris SG, or just PSG, whatever fits you. The French soccer team, based in Paris is one of the best-funded clubs in Europe (Hi, Hello Manchester City owners :)), so it's not a surprise that the management of the team decided to expand their activation in esports scene.
In 2016, the club has decided to open an esports division, PSG Esports and enter to the industry with FIFA, Rocket League, and Dota 2 teams. It was a huge step for the whole scene, but also for the club as well. For example, the Dota 2 team (the club cooperated with Chinese esports organization LGD Gaming, PSG.LGD respectively) the team has earned just over $5M in prize money since the partnership was formed in 2018. Not bad, huh?
Because of this success, the PSG Esports has announced an expansion into Southeast Asia with the launch of a Mobile Legends squad in partnership with Indonesian-based esports organization Rex Regum Qeon. The team was founded in 2013, started its journey in Dota 2 but now competes in eight different titles. Despite the popularity of Dota 2 in this region, Mobile Legends has become a force to be reckoned with. Over 43M players overall is a really big deal.
Yassine Jaada, PSG Esports Chief Gaming Officer says in the statement:
With 43M Mobile Legends players, half of them in Indonesia, getting into this game was obvious for us. PSG Esports is striving for the best and we are glad to make an association with leading Team RRQ.
The first attend for the team will be ML: BB Professional League Indonesia Season 3, while the only question remains how the players will deal with a "stress" to represent such a prestige name like Paris Saint-Germain. This is a new title and players are not used to deal with such a big audience like for example in Dota 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. However, its a still big news and we wish them the best of luck!
