Riot Games shared a video that details the new visual they've given Pantheon, along with his gameplay rework, updated story and even a new theme.
In League of Legends lore, Pantheon is a human soldier called Atreus, possessed by the Aspect of War. Now, the Aspect has been killed by Aatrox but Atreus returns, in control of his body and the powers of the Aspect of War. This change comes nine years after his initial release and Riot have taken the opportunity to modernise his kit.
His ultimate has been changed from Grand Skyfall to Grand Starfall, with Pantheon streaking across the ground at an angle, unlike before. Animator Jason Chisholm's words sums up the core of Pantheon’s change. “He actually causes a lot of impacts on the ground. By having these grounded elements, it helps him from feeling too magical, too godly, and too heavenly, when most importantly he is just a very strong warrior.”
Pantheon’s new kit adds more “skill expression” to the old, giving him a refreshing, yet familiar feel. Like any creator would be, the developers are excited to see how players react to the new changes.
