Riot Games has announced its partnership with in-flight entertainment company Panasonic Avionics to broadcast LCS and Academy matches on commercial aircraft.
Although aircraft equipped with Panasonic’s in-flight entertainment systems will provide this service, it is currently unknown which airlines will take part in the experience. Matches will, however, be broadcast in a near-live format, making sure fans do not miss out on any of the action.
A similar experience was provided by Emirates Airlines when it partnered with tournament organiser ESL to provide on-demand esports content from their past events. From 2017 to 2019, the industry has moved from old shows to almost live events. With Dignitas' return to the LCS and both Immortals and Evil Geniuses making their entry, LCS 2020 will surely be one to remember.
Esports content is now available on virtually every screen imaginable, which is an impressive feat. It will be interesting to see whether other tournament series adopt the idea of in-flight content as well.
