Multiple team members of paiN Gaming’s Dota 2 roster have announced the squad’s disbandment via Twitter. Support player, Thiago de Oliveira “Thiolicor” Cordeiro broke the news in a tweet posted on November 18 while the team captain, Rodrigo “Lelis” Santos posted a follow-up tweet along with a TwitLonger.
Lelis revealed that the decision to disband was from the “selfish attitude” of some of his teammates. These players decided to give up rather than fight through their rough patch. His experience as a team captain has soured the role for him, and he has no intention of filling it again. Lelis still plans to remain in competitive Dota and will focus on streaming until he can secure a new team.
The squad has seen a disappointing 2019, with paiN Gaming finishing in the bottom half of the DPC Majors and failing to qualify for The International 2019. Their most significant success this year was during the DOTA Summit 10, where they finished in second place behind Alliance. Failing to qualify for the first Major, they tried to secure the final spot via the DOTA Summit 11 Minor but finished in last-place beside Ad Finem.
The organization has made no official statement regarding the team's status, but it should only be a matter of time as fans will need to know what the future holds in store for their favorite team.
