From the second tome of Archronicus, the treatise of the missing mage Aghanim:

"[...] We all have to sacrifice something [...]

A few months have passed since the discovery, which has painted a formidable future for the inhabitants of the Valley. In the end, the only right plan matured from the calculations, theories, assumptions and visions. The idea is as reckless as it is useful.

I decided to hit first. Destroy the Ancients before they gain strength, use their conclusion and artificial weakening for the benefit while the celestial sarcophagus does its function and restrains the original antipodes. While the forces that I own, have some potential.

However, the titanic cradle was just as strong on the outside as on the inside. With disappointment, I found that the great shell works in both directions and the forces enclosed in it are simultaneously under reliable protection.

New task captured my mind.

A few days separate me from an important date. I meet the fifth spring in my own observatory, built to study the Mad Moon. I'm horrified to realize that I haven't seen my own family for several months, my young wife and a little son.

Day after day, I'm looking for a way to open the space sarcophagus. The danger of this path lies in the fact that even if it's successful, I will meet with the liberated Ancients. I cannot also estimate their strength. Even though entities enclosed in a sphere are only a shadow of their former power, their total energy can be destructive for the inhabitants of the Valley.

I spent another two months in my attempt to get ahead of the Ancients. 

Ancient treatises, scrolls, magical seals, hidden spells, runic tablets - all this is useless trash. Scepter meditation is my only salvation. I saw a solution during one of the sessions in the depths of space.

I hope our son, having matured, will understand me. We all have to sacrifice something [...]"
