Super Smash Bros. Melee fans rejoice because the opt-in period for the Smash Summit 9 fan voting is now live. This means individual players can sign up to get voted into one of the biggest Smash Melee tournaments of the year.

Smash Summit 9 has a total of eighteen spots for participants to fill. Eight of these were invited to compete and represent the best of the best in the game. From the remaining ten spots, five will go to the non-invited winners of Genesis 7 and Saving Mr. Lombardi 2. The last five spots go to players voted in by fans.

On February 2, the first player will be voted in. Vote-in players two and three will be determined on February 4, while four and five will be finalized on February 6. In order to prevent hundreds of entries for the nomination, players interested in securing a spot must meet the following criteria:

  • Top 128 finish at Genesis 7
  • Top 16 finish at GENESIS Black, Smash Factor 8, Smash Camp: End of Summer, Fete, and Valhalla III
  • Top 8 finish at Awakening 5, SuperBou 3, Syndicate 2019, MMOM Memorial, Canada Cup 2019, and Battle Arena Melbourne 11
  • Top 32 finish at Low Tier City 7 and Mainstage
  • Top 64 finish at The Big House 9, Shine 2019, and Super Smash Con 2019
  • Top 100 of MPGR

Genesis 7 will take place this weekend from January 24-26, while Saving Mr. Lombardi 2 takes place on February 1. Fans will get to tweet their support for nominees on January 26, with the top 20 players with the most nominations moving onto the voting phase on January 29.

Smash Summit 9 will take place from February 13-16 in Los Angeles with the usual fun and antics.
