Riot Games has signed a partnership deal with smartphone manufacturer OPPO, making them the official smartphone partner of League of Legends esports.
The deal is a multi-year partnership which will end in 2024 and begins on October 2 at the League of Legends World Championship. However, the deal will cover all international events and not just Worlds.
The Chinese company will put the spotlight on the underdogs and dark horses of League. This will bring fans closer to the action but they've got even more planned, like:
Being the first global presenting partner for the Worlds and Mid-Season Invitational MVP.
The OPPO Cam which will provide a closer look at the competition, cosplay and behind-the-scenes action.
Promotions that will give viewers the chance to win a trip to the All-Star Event, Mid-Season Invitational or Worlds.
OPPO Vice President, Brian Shen said in a statement: "Esports is a fast-growing sport globally, and League of Legends has become a lifestyle of many young people in recent years. As a consumer-centered brand, OPPO always seeks the right way to communicate with young people, our target audience. This is a great move for Riot and OPPO; the partnership will allow us to continue to strengthen our bond with the young as we join them in celebrating the victory of each game."
Riot Games Head of Global Esports Business Development and Partnerships, Naz Aletaha also commented on the partnership: "OPPO’s commitment to design and innovation are cornerstones in everything they do, and we are thrilled to have them bring their pioneering spirit to our global sport and fanbase."
OPPO has partnered with a number of traditional sports organisations like FC Barcelona, but this deal marks its first entry into esports. A fact that Riot Games is very proud of.
