There was a time when it seemed that 3D-visualisation would become the golden standard for both television and gaming. About 10 years ago, the vendors of TV sets were gearing for a revolution and expected every household to want 3D-capable TV; the same thing was happening with gaming, which prompted Nvidia to release the 3D Vision technology.
Unfortunately for the technological giants, the new trend didn't catch up. It happened for various reasons: the devices were too expensive (we are talking about the times after the US market crash) and the benefits — too slim. Hardly anyone wanted to invest several hundred dollars into a monitor that would produce more pixels if you are wearing goggles.
Nvidia has been supporting 3D Vision until now, you can find a lengthy list of games enhanced by the technology on the official site (I was surprised by some titles from the list). Yet, the company is finally throwing a towel and abandoning the 3D Vision after April’s Release 418. Should a critical issue arise, the Nvidia will update the 418 driver (but only before the end of the year).
