Markus “Notch” Persson is the creator of Minecraft – that wonderful sandbox game, which is responsible for changing the way the industry works. The man was highly praised by the gamers for his innovative project, although he caused a wave of criticism after selling his Mojang studio to Microsoft for a whopping sum of $2.5 billion.
The gamers felt abandoned, but it is worth noting that Mojang never stopped developing and supporting Minecraft – even years after the acquisition by Microsoft happened. The game has received tons of updates with new content and reached all the relevant gaming platforms. And the latest move by the studio indicates that the developers do not feel like Markus Persson should be any longer related to the game that has drastically changed during his absence. The ResetEra users report that the latest update has removed all the references of Notch from the game. If you recall, Minecraft has some silly messages (written in a yellow font over the logo) that randomly pop up on the main screen. Some of them mentioned Notch – and these ones were completely removed. Persson is still present in the game’s credits as the original creator, though.
Judging by the Notch’s latest attempts to develop new games, the acquisition by Microsoft was probably the best thing to ever happen to Mojang and Minecraft. The game is stronger than ever and has an enormous player base, which doesn’t seem to shrink. Who cares about Notch after all?
