According to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director, Masahiro Sakurai, Fighters Pass 2 is the last wave of DLC characters planned for the popular fighting game. He shared this information in a recent issue of the Japanese magazine, Famitsu.
Nintendo revealed in January that the second DLC pack would feature six characters instead of the five that the first had. It will also arrive across 2020-2021, allowing the excitement surrounding reveals and drops to stretch into next year. It sounds like sad news, but considering how large the game’s roster already is, it’s hard to complain.
There are currently 86 characters in the game, including the first DLC fighters, 88, if you include all of Pokemon Trainers’ companions. That’s a huge roster, and adding six more takes us close to the 100 characters mark. Very few fighting games can boast of a roster half this size, and Nintendo also manages to keep the game balanced.
Sakurai doesn’t officially work for Nintendo, so once he finishes with the release of Fighters Pass 2, we could see the director move on to other games and projects. Hopefully, the next batch of characters will be even better than the last.
