Three teams announced the withdrawal from ESL One Mumbai giving a hard time for the tournament organizers.
ESL One Mumbai 2019 wraps up on April 21, while OGA Dota PIT Minor 2019 in Split kicks off on April 22. A flight from Mumbai (India) to Split (Croatia) takes about 11 hours without the time required to pass the customs and board. Even if it were technically possible to grab the trophy at ESL One and make it to the Minor venue in time, the teams wouldn’t want to jump through flaming hoops to do that.
ESL has already announced the alternative plan. Recently updated Team Team with EternaLEnVy that qualified to the MDL Disneyland Paris Major is joining the action at Mumbai to bring the number of teams to 8. Those teams will play two separate GSL-style double-elimination brackets to determine the playoffs seedings.
Group A
- Natus Vincere (CIS)
- TNC Predator (SEA)
- compLexity (NA)
- Team Team (NA)
Group B
- Keen Gaming (CN)
- Mineski (SEA)
- The Pango (CIS)
- Signify (India)
The playoffs will be played on April 19-21 as scheduled before.
While choosing between events, teams will always elect to play in a DPC tournament because it increases the chances to participate in The International at the season end. NiP wants at least one more big run in a Major to make sure it’s going to TI, while both Alliance and Gambit Gaming will fight for every DPC point they can get if they want to make top 12 in the rating.
The winner of OGA Dota PIT Minor gets the last remaining slot at MDL Disneyland Paris Major, and the example recently set by Vici Gaming proves that a Minor winner can slaughter a Major.
