Nintendo announced in its latest earnings release that the Switch had sold 41.67 million units worldwide. 4.8 million in the last three months, ending September 30, 2019.

Nintendo enjoyed 35.88 million software sales during the three months ended September 30. The Switch Lite which launched on September 20, accounts for 1.95 million of the hardware units sold. It also seems like Nintendo's projections are spot-on as the company did not see any need to adjust its forecast. Nintendo still expects to sell 18 million Switch units between April 2019 and March 2020.

Regarding software, Nintendo shared the latest sales figures for its first-party Switch games, including The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening which released on September 20. The top ten best-sellers are:

  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 19.01 million

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 15.71 million

  • Super Mario Odyssey – 15.38 million

  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 14.54 million

  • Pokemon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokemon: Let’s Go, Eevee! – 11.28 million

  • Splatoon 2 – 9.28 million

  • Super Mario Party – 7.59 million

  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe – 4.59 million

  • Super Mario Maker 2 – 3.93 million

  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening – 3.13 million

Over 246.01 million Switch games have been sold worldwide, mostly thanks to the unique hybrid nature of the Nintendo Switch and its ever-growing stable of Switch exclusive games and numerous ports.

At the rate Nintendo is going, every successful game in the past three decades will eventually receive a Switch port, further milking nostalgia.
