New GTA VI leaks claim it is inspired by Netflix’s Narcos ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Thanks to Reddit user JackOLantern1982, a series of GTA VI leaks have been revealed. This information was supposedly received through JackOLantern1982’s contacts at Kotaku and PC Gamer, but how they arrived at this knowledge is unsure. The leak goes into a lot of detail about the game's setting, characters, theme and platform.

Over on Fireden, a user named GTA6man has also shared leaks for GTA VI,  some of which are quite similar to those of JackOLantern1982. Bully 2 leaks have also surfaced and once more, JackOLantern1982 shared a little information that corroborates another leakers information on that matter too.

None of this gives the GTA VI leak full credibility but it does give a fair amount of hope. So without further ado, here's a summary of the new leaks.

  • The game has been in development since 2012 but production didn't properly begin until 2015 while most of Rockstar’s attention was on Red Dead Redemption 2

  • It is a "Rockstar Worldwide Production," meaning all their studios are involved.

  • The game has been codenamed Project Americas

  • It is set in both a new fictional location based on Rio de Janeiro and Vice City.

  • Liberty City will also feature in the game but with only linear missions.

  • The game will not be as realistic as Red Dead Redemption 2 but instead have a balance between realism and arcade gameplay.

  • One playable male protagonist.

  • Set between the 1970s - 1980s.

  • You play as wannabe-drug lord “Ricardo” who goes from cocaine smuggler in Vice City to making big connections in the large new location.

  • Also has a key character named “Kacey.”

  • A “giant” prison will feature in the game.

  • Story will be divided into chapters.

  • Weather has a heavy focus, including things like hurricanes and floods.

  • Buildings and vehicles change to reflect the different eras.

  • Ingame economy will see rare classic items like cars get more expensive over time.

  • Heavy inspiration from Netflix’s Narcos

  • Rockstar is trying to secure a 70s - 80s soundtrack

  • You do hits for the Madrazo family. Martin Madrazo makes an appearance while his father is a big drug lord.

  • The drug empire building mechanic will be similar to Vice City Stories or GTA Online, only much bigger.

  • No magical arsenal. You only have weapons that can be carried on your person.

  • You store your equipment in the trunk of your personal car and items such as body armour will graphically appear once you equip them.

  • Characters will speak their native languages, so prepare to read a lot of subtitles.

  • Topics of the time like HIV and the immigration crisis will be discussed.

  • Will have a fictional version of Fidel Castro.

  • Coming to next generation consoles.

  • GTA VI and another title which might be Billy 2, are their primary focus right now.

  • Presently in Pre-Alpha, so a lot of details could change.

  • No estimated release date yet.

GTA6man claims to have been working on the acting/recording side of the game since 2015, which has made him privy to some information. His leaks mention playing in Liberty City, police trying to bust a drug ring and similarities to shows like Ozark, Breaking Bad and The Wire, which aren't much of a stretch from what JackOLantern1982 has shared.

GTA6man also mentions a plot twist that takes the player to another city but this time its "upstate New York" and not South America. Dialogue is twice the amount from GTA V and the storyline split is also repeated here. “The main storyline splits after a while, the criminal side has sort of a sandbox build-a-crime-empire thing (Fallout 4 meets The Sims), while the police side is more of a traditional action game with a little twist of LA Noire.”

Things that GTA6man said that were totally different from what JackOLantern1982 shared is basically just that the game will feature four main characters characters, two to each side of the Law. Finally, GTA6man explains that his part in the project will end in early 2021, so the game won't be seeing a release anytime before then and possibly a year or two after he's done.

The leaks certainly hint at an interesting game if true, and both leakers could actually be correct to some extent, but like always, take all this information with a pinch of salt. However, between now and early 2021, we'll likely be getting more GTA VI leaks.
