Netflix share The Witcher poster and a few character images ⚡⚡⚡ Esports and gaming news, analytics, reviews on WePlay! The latest news on WePlay!

Earlier today, Netflix tweeted an image of its upcoming original series, The Witcher. Afterwards it gave us a first look at 3 iconic characters from the show and as an apology for misspelling Anya Chalotra’s name, we were given an extra image of each.

Anya Chalotra plays Yennefer, the powerful sorceress. Henry Cavill plays the Witcher himself and Freya Allan plays Ciri, the child of destiny. Based on The Witcher books which spawned a highly successful video game franchise, the story tells a dark tale of magic, monsters and adventure. Geralt is one of the last few witchers left in existence, a monster hunting mutant that finds himself embroiled in worldly politics, ancient bloodlines and the love of a young child.

Reactions towards Geralt’s casting seems to be unanimously positive while Ciri is considered good enough, but many aren't too happy about Yennefer. Still, the pictures look lovely, evoking a touch of high fantasy magic with its muted colours and use of shadow. The show was announced to release late 2019 with no other specifics but after these images, more information could be on the way.

The Witcher video games were a trilogy developed by CD Projekt Red, with the third in the series gaining high critical acclaim. They've also released a digital board game and a digital collectible card game spinoff named Gwent. The game's story differ from the books but whichever you decide to try, you're in for a treat.
