Activision Blizzard has unexpectedly fired one of its executives - chief financial officer Spencer Neumann. The company notified Neumann on December 31 stating that the decision is "unrelated to the financial reporting or disclosure controls and procedures" and leaving him with the best New Year gift you could've ever imagined.
The official statement mentions that right now Neumann is put on a paid leave while the current chief corporate officer Dennis Durkin has taken over CFO's duties until the situation is completely resolved. In case Neumann decides to leave the company his position will be officially transferred to Durkin. Right now Neumann is given "an opportunity for him to demonstrate why cause does not exist to terminate his employment or why termination of his employment is not otherwise justified". But it looks like he is not going to take his chance.
As Reuters reports citing its own sources, this is all due to the rumor that Neumann is leaving Activision intentionally to join Netflix - another gigantic "money magnet" which is currently looking for a new CFO after its former one left last year. The official announcement on the matter is expected in the coming days, so stay tuned.
