The eighth Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 event ended on an exciting note some hours ago. Alan "Nephew" Sun managed to defeat his rival, Miky "Samurai" Chea, in the Grand Finals to lock-in his place at the prestigious main event.

Nephew NA West 1 Qualifier

Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 North America West 1, the fourth CPT 2020 qualifier event in the Americas attracted 276 participants. Among them are pro players like Gustavo "801 Strider" Romero, Jesse "Commander Jesse" Espinoza, Victor "Punk" Woodley, Darryl "Snake Eyez" Lewis, Eduardo "PR Balrog" Pérez, Anton "Filipinoman" Herrera, and Toi "Toi" Bridges.

The Street Fighter League Season 3 team captain of Alpha 3Punk, was unable to make it into the Top 8. However, his teammate Nephew pressed on, even after Samurai sent him to the Losers Bracket during the Semifinals. Defeating Snake Eyez 3-2 in the Losers Quarterfinals, Nephew worked his way through the bracket, beating JB and 801 Strider, to seize a rematch with Samurai.

Things were much different this time too, as Nephew forced a bracket reset after winning the first game 3-0. Staring at possible defeat, Samurai made a fierce comeback, pressing Nephew at every turn, but it wasn't enough. With the scores tied at two games, Nephew stole the final round to win the match and the event.

Here's a look at the Top 8 standings for Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 North America West 1:

1. Alan "Nephew" Sun

2. Miky "Samurai" Chea

3. Gustavo "801 Strider" Romero

4. UYU|Jonathan "JB" Bautista

5. Alex Myers

5. Darryl "Snake Eyez" Lewis

7. Radiance|Jesse "Commander Jesse" Espinoza

Interestingly, all participants from the first day of Street Fighter League Season 3 Pre-Season made it into the Top 8, with one of them winning the event. His victory in the qualifier marks Nephew's first Capcom Cup entry, taking his place as the eighth player on the lineup.

The next event in the Street Fighter V tournament circuit is Capcom Pro Tour Online 2020 North America East 2, which begins on August 29. It will bring together players from 39 locations across the US and Canada.
