Introduction

Mortal Kombat 11 is the latest version of, arguably, one of the most famous fighting video games of all time. Running on the Unreal Engine 4, the game delivers stunning graphics and amazing gameplay. In addition to that, most of the game critics also gave it a positive review. NetherRealm Studios once again were able to deliver what the fans wanted. In fact, they are by far the best video game company when it comes down to deliver the gruesome massacres in fighting games, something which is definitely not as easy as it seems.

Similar to the previous two games of the series, MK11 is a so-called “2.5D fighting game”. There are many new abilities and features such as Fatal Blows and Crushing Blows for example.

Of course, MK11 is available on different platforms and all of them have different controls. Currently, you can play the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo switch. In this article, we are going to cover the most essential controls for the two most popular platforms - PlayStation 4 and PC.

Apart from the various controls, MK11 has many new features which can help new players. For example, if you don’t want to play against other people you can just hop on any of the single-player modes and learn all you need about a certain fighter. By doing this, you will get familiar with all the needed moves in order to perform well against other players.

PS 4 Controls

Let’s take a look at the PlayStation 4 universe first. In general, most of the players prefer to play this game on a console. However, at the end of the day, it all comes down to your personal preference. The Battle between Xbox and PlayStation has been on for years and it will definitely not end anytime soon.

  • Front Punch - Square
  • Back Punch - Triangle

  • Front Kick - X

  • Back Kick - Circle

  • Throw - L1

  • Block - R2

  • Interact - R1

  • Flip Stance - L2

Of course, in order to be successful in MK11, you need to make various combinations from the controls. At first, it might seem like a very hard thing to do. However, as you get better at the game, things will become much easier. Also, let’s not forget that you can configure the controls as much as you like in order to suit your preferences.

What’s more, usually the fighting games are kind of easier to play on a PS rather than PC. That’s why the vast majority of the tournaments held for these games are being played on a PlayStation. However, let’s not forget the various Online events nowadays which usually take place on a PC. That’s why it is essential to learn to play on both platforms if you want to be good at the game.

PC Controls

Learning to play MK11 properly on a PC is definitely easier said than done. In fact, if you are coming from a PS, it might even harder because there will be no gamepad.

Of course, like any other PC game, you will be using the keyboard and mouse as a default. However, if you are unable to get used to them, you can always get a PC gamepad and just use it instead. It is important to note that an Xbox One-style gamepad is definitely a better option compared to the PS 4 in this case.

The default keybindings are as follows:

  • Frong Punch - J
  • Back Punch - I

  • Front Kick - K

  • Back Kick - L

  • Throw - SPACE

  • Block - O

  • Interact - ;

  • Flip Stance - U

  • Jump - W

  • Duck - S

  • Move Left - A

  • Move Right - D

  • Character Assist - P

  • Clear Stage - M

Similar to other platforms, you will have the chance to Input Window Timing, Crushing blows, Release check and more. On top of that, you can always go to the Settings tab and just change the keys to your personal preference. However, it is advisable to just try to learn the defaults because it will be way easier in the long run. What’s more, if you are going to play the future MK titles, learning the defaults will be very handy.

Playing with your friends

Mortal Kombat 11 can be one of the most interesting games to play with your friends. There are various online multiplayer options out there. However, the best option to play with your friends is to set up a local lobby. You can do that either on the same console or by connecting to the game’s online component from the menu.

You can do that by clicking on the Fight menu and then select the Local option. In addition, you can even organize a Tournament from the options there.

On the contrary, if you prefer to play online, you will need to click on Online just after selecting Fight from the menu. From there, you can join the Kombat league, which is basically a marathon of ranked matches. However, unless you are e hardcore player, chances are you are not going to be doing this.
