During yesterday’s Fujin Kombat Kast, NetherRealm Studios not only showed off the returning character but also revealed a new universal mechanic that will be coming to the game with the next update.
Upon Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath’s release, each character in the game will have one attack adopt armor breaking properties. Demonstrated on stream using Fujin, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, and Shao Kahn, this new addition to the game exists to counter breakaways and other moves with armor. Although requiring a lot of meter, breakaway actions allow players to escape combos when being juggled, applying armor properties as they return to the ground.
With these modified attacks, players will be able to punish their opponents for using breakaways, if they’re fast enough. The modified attacks could either be a character’s regular or special attack, but the armor breaking effect will only trigger once. However, unlike Scorpion, Fujin, and Sub-Zero’s armor breaking attacks, Shao Kahn’s requires meter to perform, turning his downward shoulder tackle into an armor breaking counter.
Yesterday’s Kombat Kast was supposed to be all about Fujin, but he wound up sharing the spotlight with the armor breaking attacks showcased. Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will release digitally on May 26, 2020, for all platforms.
