The revised version of Metal Slug 7 called Metal Slug XX has recently hit Steam with 1080p and 4K compatibility along with some other enhancements. Unfortunately for the title, the reception it got turned out to be extremely poor. Right now, the game has a mere 35% rating with users’ reviews being mostly negative.
There’re several issues with the game, and players note that the game has no graphics or control options, which is a shame in 2019. The current binding for the keyboard seems random and unintuitive, which makes using a controller obligatory – otherwise, you risk having a lot of trouble trying to figure out controls. The PC port of Metal Slug XX cannot offer you changing the resolution or switching into windowed mode. Moreover, hitting the Escape button on your keyboard results in an immediate quit. What a fun addition to the game!
A lot of users claim they’ve already refunded the game, and it’s not that surprising given Metal Slug XX is in a somewhat unplayable state right now. While keyboard support is in the poorest implementation imaginable (with an input lag, it occurs), the game fully supports controllers which means they vibrate in the moments it is necessary, for example. That’s definitely not how you should handle PC ports nowadays.
