Meet Frances Frei, the woman hired to solve Riot’s sexism problems
After helping Uber to rebuild trust inside the company, Frei now aspires to do the same for Riot Games
Riot Games has hired Uber's former senior vice president of leadership and strategy Frances Frei. As senior advisor to the company's senior executives she is supposed to help reshape internal culture and help League of Legends publisher to solve problems related to harassment and sexist discrimination.
Frances Frei is known for helping Uber solve internal problems of trust and communication. The company hasn’t become very popular in the eyes of general populace, but at least it’s no longer seen as a public enemy number one and has learned to cope with its problems internally. If you are wondering how Frei helped Uber and if she had any impact at all, we highly recommend watching her Ted Talk, which is both inspiring and educational.
Upon taking the job at Riot Games, Frei held meetings and conversations with leadership and many people across the staff. The company released an article where the senior advisor shares words of praise towards Rioters. The article wouldn’t sound as self-serving if it wasn’t posted on Riot Games’ website. Here is one of the Frei’s quotes:
"Riot isn’t interested simply in fixing problems on the surface, they have an ambition to be an industry leader and to provide a road map for others to follow. I share that ambition and am eager to help them navigate this process".
Hopefully, this PR damage control won’t affect the actual work of solving sexism problems inside Riot Games.
