Today on Twitter, Team Liquid announced that Lasse “Matumbaman” Urpalainen is leaving their Dota 2 starting roster. The news comes as a surprise with only 10 days to the Epicenter Major in Moscow, with both parties now making “suitable arrangements."
The esports organisation pays tribute to Matumbaman’s achievements as a player and in their team. “As the Wolf, the Bear, and the Spider, MATU cemented his place as one of the game's best with Team Liquid, and we will always be proud of our time together as one of the greatest teams to ever play Dota 2.”
Matumbaman is a Finnish professional Dota 2 player that joined Team Liquid in 2015. While there the team went on to win The International 2017. He first made a name for himself when he won the Assembly Summer 2014 LAN tournament with team Veni, Vidi, Vici.
His replacement at the Epicenter Major is yet to be announced, with more details to come.
